How To Make Maple Breakfast Sausage with Pork

Maple breakfast sausage with pork is a delicious way to include more protein in any breakfast! With just a few ingredients, you can pull together a more delicious and nutritious version of anything you can purchase in the store.

Benefits of Making Homemade Breakfast Sausage

There are many benefits of making your own maple breakfast sausage. If you order pork in bulk from a local farmer, this is a great way to utilize ground meat. It’s also an easy way to increase protein into your breakfast meals.

Making your own maple breakfast sausage allows you to use simple ingredients and serve your family a sausage without the filler ingredients and unneeded preservatives that normally get added to ones that are sold in conventional grocery stores.

Shaping Homemade Breakfast Sausage

When making homemade maple breakfast sausage, you have a few options on shaping the seasoned pork. The main three options include patties, links and no shaping!

The first option is to make patties. To make patties, section off your desired amount of meat, roll into a ball and flatten into a disk and cook as desired. These patties are great for making breakfast sandwiches or serving alongside a couple fried eggs.

The first option is to make a link or sausage style. To make links/sausages, section off your desired amount of meat and form it into your desired sausage shape. I like to do this primarily with one hand. Roughly flatten the section and place it at the base of your fingers and gently curl your fingers to your palm to make a fist. These links are great for serving with eggs and potatoes or other breakfast items.

The last option is to not shape your maple breakfast sausage. To do this, just store your desired amount of prepared sausage in your desired container and freeze. This is a great option if you are making breakfast sausage in bulk and want to shape your sausage later. Storing your sausage in bulk/not shaped is also a great option if you like to cook your sausage and chop the cooking meat into smaller pieces so that you can sprinkle within your breakfast.

Storing Homemade Breakfast Sausage

There are a few different ways you can store homemade breakfast sausage. The way you choose to store your sausage will greatly depend on when you’re going to be consuming it. If you’re going to be cooking the sausage within a day or two, you can store the raw meat in the refrigerator. For longer term storage, I recommend storing in the freezer.

If you want to have your sausage prepared for a hosting event a few days ahead of time, you can either pre-cook or pre-shape (if desired) and then store in the refrigerator.

If you want this sausage prepared to make easy breakfasts, you can either pre-cook or pre-shape (if desired) and then store in the freezer. If you choose to pre-shape your sausage, I recommend flash freezing the pre-shaped raw meat before stacking them on top of each other.
