How to make Popcorn on the Stovetop
When making the switch to home cooked foods, it was easy to change over the main meals. However, the snack department needed a lot more help. Quick snacks are a staple in our home not only for movie nights but for general snacking. This stovetop popcorn is an inexpensive and simple snack to make and store.
Whether it’s a road trip, a movie, a camping trip or a party, popcorn is one snack that almost everyone likes or will eat. While most traditional microwave popcorn bags have not-so-good-for-you oils or other ingredients that just don’t need to be there, this simple to make stove top popcorn is made with as little as 3 ingredients. Not only does stove top popcorn taste better but this stove top popcorn also adds in healthy fats and good salt.
My family loves stove top popcorn plain with salt but feel free to play around with different spice combinations and other toppings. Some friends of ours like to add powdered cheese or taco seasoning to add extra flavor. This stovetop popcorn can also be used to make caramel corn or popcorn balls.

Directions to Make Popcorn on the Stovetop
Add enough cooking oil to the stockpot so that the bottom of the pot is covered. Place the stockpot on the stove and set to medium/high heat.
Once the oil has melted, add popcorn kernels to evenly cover the bottom of the stockpot.
When the kernels begin to sizzle, secure the lid to the stockpot.
When you hear the kernels begin to pop, intermittently slide & shake the stockpot while securely holding the lid in place with oven mitts on your hands. The goal of this is to make sure the popcorn doesn’t burn (and not to burn your hands !)
When you hear the popping slow significantly, remove the stockpot from the heat. Remove the lid when the popping has stopped.
If you are choosing to use melted butter as a topping, begin melting the butter while the popcorn cools.
Add the melted butter, salt and any other toppings over the popcorn in the stockpot and shake vigorously to evenly distribute.
Serve in your desired bowl and enjoy!
