Four Essential Seasoning Blends You Should Make Instead of Buy
Although individual seasonings are an essentials in many kitchens, there are some seasoning blends every spice cabinet should always have. Making your own essential seasoning blends from individual spices is also the best way to go!
Making your own seasoning blends tend to be A LOT cheaper per ounce than the pre-made ones in the store. The best part? You can control ALL of the ingredients. Whether it’s the flavor, spice level or not wanting the unneeded ingredients you know exactly what’s in your blends.
Seasoning Mix #1: Taco
When I’m not feeling the most inspired in the kitchen, one of my go to meals are tacos. Even growing up, it was a regular staple in our menu plan. However, most taco seasoning packets either don’t have enough seasoning or have unneeded ingredients.
Early on in my homestead journey I was determined to make the best taco seasoning for my family. After many tweaks to the recipe, I finally made it! Want to try out my recipe? See it HERE.
Seasoning Mix #2: Fajita
Similar to tacos, fajitas are an extremely easy and quick dinner that has become a regular staple in our meal planning rotation. The fajita seasoning recipe I’ve made simply does not compare to any store bought seasoning packets I’ve had.
One of the best parts about this recipe is that it uses a lot of the same ingredients as the taco reasoning blend! That makes this seasoning blend a good one to make if you’re looking to have your spices serve a dual purpose. Looking to try this fajita seasoning blend? You can find it HERE.
Seasoning mix #3: Italian
An Italian blend is not only good for spaghetti sauce or Italian specific dishes. I add this to almost anything that needs a bit of complex flavor.
My favorite recipe to use this is in my homemade hamburger helper! My Italian seasoning blend is made with Dried Basil, Dried Oregano, Dried Parsley, Dried Rosemary, Dried thyme, Red Chili Flakes and Garlic Powder. See the full recipe HERE.
Seasoning mix #4: Best Roasted Chicken Seasoning
Roasted chicken is one of my family’s favorite meals! It’s hearty, filling and delicious. Plus, we get so many meals out of the one chicken. The bones get used for bone broth and can be made into a whole new meal. My best roasted chicken seasoning blend is made with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika and chili powder.
